Out-of-Network Care · Mentaya Reimbursement · Concierge-Style Access
If you've been putting off therapy while waiting for an opening on your insurance panel, here's something worth knowing: that wait can cost you months. At Graceful Balance, we made a different choice. We don't accept insurance, and it's not to make things harder for you. It's so we can keep our caseloads small, our schedules open, and your care built around you instead of around what an insurer will approve.
Insurance companies decide how many sessions you get, what diagnosis goes on your permanent record, and how soon you're seen. Not your therapist, and not you. Staying out-of-network lets us build your treatment plan around your actual needs, protect your privacy, and keep caseloads sustainable so your therapist shows up rested and present.
We go deep on every reason in our blog post, "Why We Don't Accept Insurance at Graceful Balance Wellness."
Most PPO and some POS plans include out-of-network benefits: coverage for
providers not contracted with your insurer. You pay Graceful Balance directly ($165 per individual or couples session, $75 per group), your insurer applies that toward your out-of-network deductible, and once it's met, your plan reimburses a percentage back to you, often 40 to 80%. Historically that meant chasing down superbills yourself. Mentaya changes that.

Think of Mentaya as the billing team you'd get at a concierge medical practice, built specifically for out-of-network therapy. Once you sign up, Mentaya checks your specific benefits in seconds, files your claim automatically after every session, follows up on delays or denials, and sends your reimbursement straight to you by check or direct deposit. Their fee is 5% per claim, and it's entirely optional. We don't receive any portion of it.
1. Check your benefits using our Mentaya link to see what you could get back.
2. Book your first session (no panel approval or referral needed).
3. Pay your session rate directly, the same as any private-pay appointment.
4. Mentaya files the claim once your therapist confirms the session.
5. You get reimbursed by check or direct deposit once your deductible is met.
Insurance-paneled therapists are often booked out weeks or months, because being in-network means taking on more clients than one person can meaningfully hold. Out-of-network practices like ours don't have that constraint, so reaching out gets you a call back, not a waitlist. And with Mentaya, you're not giving up the insurance dollars you're already paying for.
We're intentionally out-of-network so we can keep caseloads manageable and get you scheduled quickly. How much will I get back? It depends on your plan. Some reimburse 40%, others closer to 80%. The Mentaya benefits check takes seconds and tells you exactly what to expect.
A superbill is still available on request; using Mentaya is entirely optional.
No. Their 5% fee goes entirely to Mentaya for filing and following up on your claim. Can I use my HSA or FSA card? Yes, both are accepted directly.
