Licensed in Maryland & Pennsylvania | EMDR, Perinatal Mental Health, Greif, Nature Therapy | Hanover, PA & Westminster, MD
Hi, I'm Amanda Gibbons. I’m a licensed clinical social worker in both Maryland and Pennsylvania, and I’m also a certified perinatal mental health provider. I offer virtual therapy across both states, and in-person sessions at our Hanover, PA and Westminster, MD offices. I also offer nature-based walk-and-talk therapy for clients who feel more at ease outside.
I specialize in working with women in the perinatal season — including postpartum depression and anxiety, birth trauma, fertility challenges, and pregnancy loss. I also work with teens, young adults, and adults walking through grief, chronic illness, anxiety, trauma, and relational struggles.
As a therapist, I bring both clinical knowledge and personal lived experience to my work. I know what it’s like to grieve deeply, to feel anxious in motherhood, and to wonder if healing is even possible. But I also know what it’s like to be met with hope and support — and that’s what I strive to offer others.
I live with my husband and two energetic boys, and we’re always outdoors — hiking, fishing, chasing the sun. I also love a quiet cup of tea, journaling through art, and slowing down to reconnect with what matters.
Why I do this work:
My story shaped my calling. In my twenties, I lost my older brother suddenly in a tragic accident. It rocked my world. I walked through deep valleys of grief, trauma, and questions of identity and purpose. During that season, I sought out therapy and it changed everything. I knew then that I wanted to hold space for others the way my therapist held space for me.
Later, when I became a mother, I experienced anxiety during a rainbow pregnancy following a miscarriage. I also struggled with postpartum intrusive thoughts. These painful experiences opened my eyes to how much women carry silently — and how little support they often receive. That’s when I felt a strong pull to specialize in perinatal mental health and walk with others through their hardest seasons.
Who I help:
I love working with women in the perinatal season, those walking through postpartum depression, anxiety, or fertility struggles. I also work with teens, young adults, and adults facing grief, chronic illness, anxiety, or relational overwhelm. Many of my clients feel like they’re carrying the weight of the world and just want a place to exhale and feel seen.
My Approach:
I take an integrative and trauma-informed approach. I’m trained in EMDR, CBT, mindfulness, and narrative therapy. I also offer Christian counseling and support clients in exploring where faith and healing intersect.
Sessions are tailored to you — and grounded in the belief that your story matters.
What Faith Looks Like in the Counseling Room:
Faith is a big part of my work — and I always follow your lead. If you want to incorporate prayer, Scripture, or explore where God is in your healing, I welcome that fully. If you’re wrestling with doubt or trying to reconnect spiritually, that’s okay too.
I view every session as a chance to love others well — with grace, humility, and compassion. I pray before sessions and prepare with care, trusting that God is at work in this space.
What Growth Means to Me:
Healing is a sacred and non-linear process. It’s not about “getting over” things or fixing yourself. It’s about gently peeling back the layers of shame, pain, or fear and remembering who God created you to be.
Sometimes healing means learning to breathe again. Sometimes it means grieving what was lost. Sometimes it’s just showing up.
Growth doesn’t always look big and bold — sometimes it’s quiet, slow, and sacred. It’s allowing yourself to receive support, to be vulnerable, and to trust that God meets you in the mess — not just the victories.
What to Expect:
You can expect a warm, relaxed, no-pressure space. We’ll go over what’s bringing you in, explore your story, and begin creating a plan for care. You don’t have to share everything all at once — we go at your pace. My goal is to help you feel safe, supported, and empowered.
I want you to know:
I wish more women knew that you don’t have to wait until you’re “really struggling” to get support — especially in the perinatal season. Whether you’re just feeling off, anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck, you deserve to be cared for.
So much of what you’re feeling is valid, treatable, and not your fault.
