Life coaching is designed to help individuals with a number of things: setting goals, making easy and practical steps to achieve those goals, growing in discipline, and more. Christian life coaching does these same things but through a Christ-centered lens.
Many people come to life coaching because they have some big questions like:
- Is there more to life than how it currently feels/functions?
- Am I actually happy with my life?
- I’m successful in this area of life, but what about this other area of life (personal, professional, spiritual, etc.)?
- Am I meant to do something more with my life?
- I want to have more purpose, but how do I get there?
Life coaching is not the same as counseling or therapy. Where therapy helps individuals work through past struggles and/or trauma, life coaching looks forward, helping you create a more proactive and action-based approach to personal or professional goals. It doesn’t seek to process or resolve specific problems or issues, but rather is about setting and meeting goals.
Coaches ask lot of open-ended questions to help clients verbally process what they are thinking. It also helps bring the subconscious thoughts to the surface to help clients move towards their goals.
The International Christian Coaching Institute notes, “…coaching is more about growth and not necessarily about clinical assessment, diagnosis or healing. Rather, it is a movement toward a healthier maturity instead of an unhealthy dependence on other things or people.”
Different life coaches may take varying approaches to coaching. Some have specific areas of expertise like financial coaching, anxiety coaching, parental coaching, relationship coaching, leadership coaching, and more. Christian life coaches believe and invite the Holy Spirit to guide them and their clients through the coaching journey.
At Graceful Balance, our Christian life coaches Lacey and Heather work with women to help them explore their identity and purpose in Christ, and teach them how to align with Him so that they can walk out their God-given purpose.
Lacey offers professional Christian life coaching, purpose and identity coaching, group coaching, and educational workshops. Heather, who works from our Hanover office, also provides professional Christian life coaching and purpose and identity coaching, as well as marriage and premarital coaching, anxiety coaching and leadership coaching for churches, nonprofits and ministries.
What can you expect from Christian life coaching?
First and foremost, the goal is to align our values with God and to keep Him at the center of everything we do. Christian life coaching is geared to help individuals discern their unique passions, gifts and skills, and then use those to discover their purpose, set goals accordingly, and then work to achieve those goals.
Coaches create a safe environment to allow clients to share openly, ask questions, and take an honest look at their lives and where they want to go. While coaching can challenge our lifestyles and unhealthy habits, it’s also a space that allows for gentleness and grace as you learn and grow.
At Graceful Balance, our life coaches come alongside therapists and other treatment providers as a comprehensive team for a holistic approach. The various aspects of our coaching and care plans will work in harmony, rather than at odds, with one another to create the best path forward.
